mcue23, Hoses to the radiator will be really hot, and pressurised as well. If you are removing a hose when it is hot, firstly get a good heavy cloth in your hand, and gently, very gently open the cap on the top up water bottle thingy. Be very careful about steam, and pressurised hot water, you can get a serious burn.
As for the other questions on the thermostat, take it out when the engine is cold, take it into the house and put it into hot water in a saucepan, get permission from her indoors first though, then bring it to the simmering stage, and watch for the thermostat to open. This should happen just before the water starts to simmer, so watch carefully. If it opens quite quickly, try it back in the car, it may well have been blocked. If this doesn't work, bin it, buy another, or run your car without for the mo.
It will be very cold but at least your engine will not over heat in one case, and the other will be as it was.

*Fixed*
Took my corsa into a motor mechanic, turns out there wasnt any antifreeze in it
Sometimes its the simple solutions that are worth checking lol

OFFICAL DVLA DATA:
1414 - corsa gsi's on the road in 2008.
735 - corsa gsi's currently on the road and 436 SORN
Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts
Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

This all happened at temperatures about 0 to -4°, but there is antifreeze in it, so would temperature be an issue?

You are a very lucky man, my friend. Not many people get away with without a lot of grief.
Glad you are back on the road, and all is well.

am i right in saying that i have to take timing belt cover off etc to get access to it ?
or if i am wrong can someone give me a pic ?
