start off with a decent induction kit and exhaust system should free up some horses lol look on corsacentre.com they do good deals on sportex exhaust systems

the cheapest route for power is to fit a c20xe redtop engine 150bhp there is a few on ebay with a full convertion kit for around 400 quid

yer but if you fitted a 2.0 then you would have to pay more on insurance etc so depending on age and mney it may be a no go . the 1.6 im assuming x16xe engine is pritty nippy standard but .

list:

exuast system ( including de-cat )
induction kit
performance ht leads
upgraded inlet manifolds
upgraded throttle bodies
not sure about cams for a x16xe
basic weightloss ( from removing big sound systems to full car strip down )
on the subject of weightloss you could gain alot of power! fibreglass bonnets,tailgates , perspex windows etc
tbh it depends ow much your willing to spend.
