Cigarette Lighter Socket Removal?

Hey Guys,

Trying to remove my cigarette lighter and install a longer one to fit a dock for my iPhone. I've got as far as unscrewing the 4 screws to get the panel and remove the power connections and remove the light but for the life of me cannot remove the actually element! I can see 2 possible clips holding it in place but cant remove the element, there must be an easier way right? And diagrams would also be great.

you need to cut some of the clear plastic off and then force it out. thats what i did as i now have a socket in the normal place and one mounted ontop of the dash
