L Reg Corsa LS - No power, battery charged

Post by southmouth »

The problem started when the car started to lose power while driving, it gradually got slower until the engine stopped completely. Tried to re-start, the car would turn over but not fire up. Eventually the battery became flat so tried to start with jump leads but the same problem. The battery is now fully charged but while trying to start car again, the power cut completely and this is absolutely no electic at all now, no dash lights, no imobiliser light, nothing! (before the power cut completely the last few times I tried starting there was a ticking/sparky sort of noise coming from the fuse box area)

I've checked all the smaller fuses and they're fine, not sure how to check the bigger box type fuses though!

What could the problem be and how can I check please?

it sounds like you have blown the maxi fuse fella i think from memory it should be a dark green kind of colour rated at either 40, 60 0r 80 amps change that your local spares place should stock them if not a scrappies, that should give you power again to help find the original fault. hope this helps :)

Hi, thanks for your reply! Where would the maxi fuse be? There are five box shaped fuses above the main fuses, is it one of these? Thanks again for your help!

no they are relays fella, depending on what corsa you have and model year and numerous other things the fuse position changes :o so you will have to look it out but it looks exactly the same as the standard fuses only about 6 times the size

Bump Start itself?

Don't see how this would help. Clutch in, situation is no dif from being in N. Clutch out, you're essentially wasting starters power trying to move the car while turning the engine...

Or do you mean bump starting down a slope?
