Slight update.

Mechanic came out and had no clue. He said clean the carb ( this is before i knew rad was broke ) so went to halfords and bought carb cleaner

Figured seems as i cant drive it i might aswell strip broken parts ready for new parts

First time removing bumper. Took me a while but got it off without breaking it :D

Thats all for now

If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Also you can pick a rad up in a scrappy cheap if you dont want the hassle of the alloy rad,

I dont like buying coil packs from scrappys as they dont know if it works and most wont take returns,

Id buy the coilpack off ebay and rad in a scrappy even if you pick one up from the scrappy aswell you can never have enough spares

Probably just get this driving again with a scrappy rad then eventually get an alloy one as there cheaper then a new stock one and should be better :)

They have there pros and cons tbh theres been some reports for small cars that they work to well sometimes as in they dont let the car get to running temp so you end up down on power, but then therrs others who say that they dont and keep the car at temp all the time even when idlung for long peeiods
So hard to know who to belive, ive no experience with them just going of old reports on them

Was it the crash bar bust the rad? They normally save it, its there main purpose lol

Glad to hear your getting straight to fixing it:) you going to diy the bonnet or just get replaced/ fixed at bodyshop

No just think the sudden stop cracked the plastic on it where it meets the chassis.

Diy bonnet till i can afford and find a better one.

Well update so far :D

Woke up and went to scrapyard with my dad, picked up a rad a new crash bar and coil pack

Picture midway through the rebuild

Image

Finally got everything back together and took it for a test drive, got to my mates house -5 mins away and i hear hissing when i turn car off, i thought i hadn't tightened a pipe so let it cool while i was chatting then drove home

Got home and looked at new rad and found a crack at the top where the clip meets the tank , used some putty on it and that sorted that problem, ran car on idle for long enough to get temps up and no steaming :D

Just need to wait for it to cool to check coolant levels then i should be good

And while i was waiting for the car to cool during previous tests i got cracking with other bits i needed to do

First was to spray blue bolts black, got them done and on car

Image

Then figured id get my corsa b stickers on

Image

Took a hammer to the bonnet and got it to this

Image

Ive straightened it more since that picture just forgot to take a picture

Thats all for now gonna let car cool then check levels then take for another test drive. Fingers crossed its sorted. I hate not having a car :(

Silver X10XE Slow project

Post by Teastick »

Thanks lads :D

This is exactly why i studied mechanics at college when i left school to give me the skills to just crack on. I needed to be driving by tomorrow so didn't want to wait around car-less plus i love working on cars. Its my happy zone lol

Took for test drive and its seems fine. No hissing no bubbling and engine bay was not too hot considering i thrashed it down a 60 road.

Real test is tomorrow when i drive to newcastle airport to pick up the missus. Also i dont think my fan works. I never seen it working before and ive had the car overheat so thats a bit worrying.

Going to hardwire the fan to a switch on my dashboard for piece of mind so i can ensure my fan works

Thats all for now il let you know how tomorrows trip go's
