Hi Octane,

Went out this morning and disconnected the car wiring terminals from battery.

Sprayed them heavily with WD40 to get rid of all the gunk around, and cleaned everything. One thing i did notice was that one of the negative cables was loose where we undid the terminals yesterday to jump start when we picked her up.

Titghtened everything back up this morning and gave it a shot. Put the car terminals on a set of jump leads and connected to new Halfrauds battery (which is now probably flat). Power everywhere and it wasnt flickering on and off. This time it started to turn over, and died, BUT you could turn the ignition key back to 0 and try again which is better than yesterday.

THe car is now on charge with an 1800cc battery charger i bought today, so leaving it a few hours and then going to try and start her up :D

Hi all,

Managed to get it started, turns out the battery in there was deader than elvis presley and the new batteries in Halfrauds arent "fully charged and ready to fit" at all!

Cant take the car for a drive though, head gasket has gone on it and its billowing white smoke and not insured, or taxed.

Next thing on the list of to do's is the head gasket.

Current spend: Battery Charger £26.99

Ive got a mate in the trade who works for parts distribution and can get everything needed for a head gasket change for £120.00

Car interior is now fully valeted, after finding half a packet of mouldy hulahoops and various childs toys, other small food particals, a packet of batteries, selotape and a complete set of pens :?

Will post up pics when it gets light.

Will keep you all posted and thanks for the help :)

Hi Peeps,

Right been a busy boy recently.

Last left off with the car being able to start and all the electrics working properly.

I managed to get the kit needed for the head gasket change from a mate who works in parts distribution. I.e. All gaskets, o-rings etc, Belts and tensioners and head bolts - £120.00

Started stripping the top half last week, and had to stop because im now back at work, but got a little more done today.

First thing i noticed when i took the inlet manifold off was the amount of creamy oil which was seeping out of the gasket.

Image

Then i noticed the build up of oil and water in the throttle body. I noticed this on my old corsa sport, must be a bi-product of a blown head gasket.

Image

When undoing the head bolts (of course in the specified sequence), there were two bolts which took my attention straight away. The bolt on the below pic didnt have a built up of any creamy oil through it, and was vertually intact with black oil right through. If you look at the inlet manifold on the top pic i posted you can see that chamber 1 doesnt have the crappy oil through it. Im beginning to make conclusions that there is only one patch to the upper left hand corner of the head gasket which is okay.

Image

I then continued to the centre of the head, and noticed another bolt with creamy oil right through below, as were the ones on the right.

Image

From my conclusions, it looks as if the complete right hand side of the head has gone, top and bottom, but i cant tell yet as the head is not off.

Anyway, i cleaned it all up as it was starting to get dark quickly and the below pic is how far ive got on her.

I will be posting up more pics soon with any progress made. :D

Any thoughts or advice welcome 8)
