yeah i would think you would still get a spark because the engine is still turning over so the current is still running through the system. ummm i would check it out if im honest
btw just to let you know you wont get away with just putting a new barrel in i dont think.
thats what it sounds like to me maybe contact original owner if you can ask him if its the original key or not or if he has another
