how is it any worse than driving on your mum or dad's insurance as a named driver when it is actually your car? technically your not insured becuase you should be on as the main driver. but loads of people do that. i am goning to have a look into declaring stuff, but there isnt that much done to it tbh.
it's only gonna be tpft, so if a crash into a tree i'm screwed either way. if i delecare everything then crash into someone and it's my fault i have to give them cash as i cant afford for my insurance to go up because of making a claim.
i might have a boy-racer car, but i cant afford to drive like one cuz if i loose my license i loose my job.

Being the main driver on parents insurance is exactly the same. If you're caught, you WILL be done for fraud, get points (And a ban) and your insurance will go up as a result. (If you can even find someone who'll insure you after lying in the past)

But take it from someone who's experienced it twice...

DECLARE EVERYTHING.

first time i had a spin out in the snow a few years back.
no other cars involved or anything, but at the time i was a named driver, under my mum's policy, but it was my car.

like you, i thought, f*** it, everyone else does it, and the premium costs about half as much!!

The insurance company wanted to know why i was driving, how often i drive, when and where i use it,
why my mum has a policy in her name for her son's car....
in the end i ended up carless for about 6 months till the clarified everything, then they backdated the policy as me as the main driver, and i had to pay the difference before they'd fix the car.....


Second time was a few months ago.

Bonnet flew open on the Astra Coupe at 60, and f****d the bonnet, wings, roof, windscreen etc.

Put it in as a claim, and they wanted to void the policy because i never declared my fmic, aftermarket dump valve, or remap to them.

Its not worth it mate, seriously.
When i was a bit younger, i'd snap at everyone who said this,
but at the end of the day, if you cant afford the insurance on a modded car, then you shouldn't have one.

Insurance is there when you need it, but you need to play the game,
cos they'll work there ass off to get out of ANY situation.

thanks for all the really uselfull information, but at the end of the day i'll do what i want to regardless of what anyone else says. you lot can think i'm a cock or what ever but it doesnt really matter. i'll declare what ever i can afford/insurance company will let me have

i know when i was 17, no one could tell me any better thatn i already knew, so i can see where your coming from matey

I only bring up my experiences baecause both times i've needed a claim, i've been shafted, had no courtesy car, and had to rely on public transport for 6 months the first time, and nearly 3 the second time.
(not good when you live 45 miles each way from work, and in the middle of nowhere!!)

And as for the going too slow,,,
I've nver ubnderstood that one in the test....

i got 2 minor's, one for driving too slowly, and the other one for.......... driving too quickly!!!!!

Wasn't speeding, but approaching the limit far too quickly

Keep at it mate, dont let your nerves get the better of you, and try and get your test booked FIRST thing on a monday morning.

If you time it right, you'll spend most of the test in start / stop traffic, and only have time to get to somewhere quiet and do a few manouvers.....
Plus, your more likely to pass at the start of the week, regardless of how you drive.
(there only allowed a certain number of passes per week / per month)

Sounds daft, but its wee things like that that strangely make the difference.

I'm one of the jammy b@stards that managed to pass first time (twice....)
(got 6 points for speeding in the first 2 years and had to resit after a 6 month ban )

Either way buddy, nowt wrong with buying the bits for the car, but if you HAVE to fit then now, and have a scrape, make sure there back off before the insurance get involved.......
