Just reading on some other forums...
And I quote:
"my moms e39 needed a new MAF. the symptoms were random misfires, mild loss of power, and eventually the car would not idle. if your foot was not on the gas, it would immediately die."
Sounds like your problem Bazza.
Hope this helps,
Mike.

turn ignition on and press and hold both buttons on the multifunctional display, that will give fault codes. But i had same prob exactly same symptoms you need to be looking at the idle control valve and checking for breaks in the wiring. It took me weeks to crack that prob when i had it, turned out to be a cracked wire onto icv plug somtines it was making the connection and firing no probs somtimes it wasnt. Hope this helps but i would be suprised if it wasnt icv or airflow meter related. May aswell clean it when you get it out too use carb cleaner.

first corsa c with an alfa romeo engine in it lol
does sound like alot of common problems, could be maf or icv related
but id always reccomend getting a diagnostic done otherwise you could be tinkering for ages trying to find the cause of the problem

you should have a multi display
the thing in the middle of the dash with the date and time on
on SOME ecu it shows the faults, not all be advised

I took the ICV off, cleaned it up as described in the tutorial (it looked very clean as it happens) reassembled everything, then started the car, and it then started revving high then low, high then low, I could hear the stepper motor clicking away, I did have the battery disconnected at the negative terminal while I had the unit off.

When it gets to the point it cuts out and won't restart...I tried inplugging the MAF...but it still wouldn't fire up...so I'm assuming I can rule out the MAF...also having read a few posts around the site...am I right in thinking that it can take up to 20 mins for the ECU and ICV to recalibrate itself and the idle speed to settle following a removal and refit.
Cheers
