Do you not have to change the engine mounts for the 1.6?

the 1.6 and the redtop both use them same 22 spline shafts. in fact most people use the gsi shafts for the conversion if they dont want to buy uprated ones. both engines are pritty much the same to drop in to the car. but for a redtop conversion, a little more wiring is needed as well as bigger brakes etc., but you definitely don't need seem weld the bay.

only problem with the redtop engine is the age of them, and most of them have been flogged and rebuilt a few times.

there were only 2 1.6 engines used in corsa's. the c16xe and the x16xe, the only real difference between them is a massive 2bhp and emission control, C16XE doesnt have an EGR, but both are pritty solid engines.

for the hassle of the conversion you would be best off just buying a 1.6 corsa. there not to hard to come by yet.

They're hard to get in ireland, and would be nice to have it as 1.2 on the book :P so does the 1.6 use differant mounts?

think about it.

cost of the insurance for a 1.6 vs cost of insuring a 1.0 once you have 3 points + a nice big fine for driving with no insurance + impound fee's once they have taken your car + a fine and another 3 points for invalid road tax

not worth the risk, wait until your insurance comes down a little.

pritty sure the mounts are the same, but dont quote me on that. dont forget you would need a different gearbox as well.

^^^^ this guy talks alot of sense

The only real way of getting round it is to still insure it as 1.6 but keep it as a 1.2 for the lower tax bracket

Apparently though when they get rid it will be illegal to sell a second hand Car with tax which means unless you have a trailer or buy it beside a PO you can't take it with you when you pay for it, which is just stupid

But take it I sell you my car taxed for a year but once you leave I go online and get my tax refunded and you get pulled over for no tax

Same goes for buying a car without tax and driving it home the cops will be looking out for people doing this for easy money
