Voluntary excess is just you saying you'll put money towards a claim, but you have to carefull with it,
Say you value your car at 1000 and you wreak and they agree to pay out the 1000 but if you have compulsory excess of 500 that means that they will pay you the remaining 500 but if you've opted for voluntary excess of 500 you would get nothing for your car and the insurance company would take it away and if you want to fix it/take parts off you have to buy it off them so now you've went from having 1000 to paying money instead, not good
