Was looking ahead at upcoming public & bank hoildays and theres two dates in April on the 6th and 9th. If i use some of my anual leave and add it to these dates il get a good week off to work on the car overhaul.

For now il plan for the ... 6th - 12th of April

This means all parts have to be ordered and collected before this date to do the rebuild.
Least it firms up a date.

*EDIT - also i have an MOT due in June so all needs fixed before then.

Spoted head gasket kit for £30 + £6 postage this includes rocker cover exhaust and even the valve stem seals. Still need to figure out what's needed for the oil sump area. Can anyone shed some light on this ?? I could really use some feedback. Cheers

are you doing complete rebuild? like rings and bearing etc.. and also if you are intending on keeping the car for a while id use genuine parts. cheap ebay ones are not the best tbh

I understand, but i admit some of the stuff is on ebay. That full timing kit i got for £30 + £10 postage normaly sells for £150 !! i dont know how i managed to get it without other people buying it. ( time will tell if its as good as its been described ) I dont have alot of spare cash to be blowing on a quality rebuild, just doing the best i can. Im happy if its a Original manufature quality aftermarket part. as i cant afford the Original parts. If its something like a sensor tho i always do try to get the original make. but sometimes you just gota go with what you can at the time. At the end of the day its better than the oil spiting out of it at the moment lol

My Goal is to do a complete overhaul and do a great job on it, but also to try and do it for as cheap as possabile without skimping on very cheap quality parts.
Im trying to buy good quality but looking out for bargains to get them cheap. if that makes sence.

Goal is to remove the engine and strip it down, get it pressure tested and head skimed. replace the timing chain and gaskets along with head gaskets etc. clean up the engine as best i can including fiting valve stem seals, and honing the cylinders. i plan to replace the clutch with a new kit and give the engine a fresh paint job. i dont plan to modify the engine in any way.

My project is to take what i have and to make sure its running at its peak mechanicaly, running smooth and clean not with a bunch of sport mod's
cosmeticaly id like to respray the arches and bumper colour coded then eventaully find a GSI bumber and skirts to go with my GSI spoiler and to lower it 40mm

why a timing belt? lol id ask them about head gasket set too, it'll probs be genuine and they throw it in with your delivery with all that lot to so saves on ebay delivery and wouldnt be too expensive i dont think. £33 plus vat for genuine on my engine! and with bearings you need to take engine apart first and measure them, cause might have had crank regrounded in past and then oversize bearings, so you would need oversize too. doubt they will be oversize thou, never know til take apart but sure your low milage anyway? so doubt it lol

Dono why a timing belt, thought id throw it into the mix  doing this much work may as well do it too but sure if its not needed il not bother.

Again cheers for advice mate, i doubt the car has had any engine work like that before. no one else has had their dirty paws all over it. with the bearings if i fit the new ones,, do i need to "reground" them ? i know i have to Hone the cylinders but might get a price off the place im getting it skimmed and pressure tested to see what else they can do for me professionally.

Also with some of the stuff, i do need advice and to do my research, im doing this project as a learning experience as well as a hobby, in the past few months ive learnt so much - its been great.
