Re: Corsa B 1999 1.2 16V "1-7-11"
Grrr mechanic still hasnt started on my car yet but is confidant it can be fixed.
poped over to him today to remind him i have timing tools in the boot of the car which he will need.
He said hes flat out due to a few cars in front of me that are due MOT very soon so they have priority
Also i dont know if anyone follows Rally Driving, but apperently my mechanic used to be the Mechanic for Famous Irish Rally Driver "Kenny McKinstry"
Been having fun driving the Honda Civic the insurance people provided while the toyota is geting fixed, its realllll sporty

Quick update..
Mechanic finaly got the top off and said was bad, full of water. But that its fixable.
He said he only poped the top to get a quick look at it, and would be properley starting it from 2mora.
Hope it all gets dried out, and up and running by Friday.

Re: Corsa B 1999 1.2 16V "1-7-11"
Been bit busy folks so havnt posted in a while,
Just wanted to update that i got the car back, feels odd after driving a few more modern cars lol
im sure it wont take long for me to get back into the swing of things.
All it needed was some new head bolts and Head Gasket.
Mechanic was telling me and showed me how the bolts i put in had all stretched.
Hopefully that should be all the mechanical stuff up to power, which only leaves Cosmetic stuff to do, like geting my spoiler painted and stuck on.

Re: Corsa B 1999 1.2 16V "1-7-11"
Just coudnt have been that simple ...
engine is running perfect, but on thursday night i checked the passenger side rear wheel bearing and they were shot ! so instead of messing around i put the wheel back on and drove to work on the Friday managed to get into work and pull into a parking space and felt the wheel just stick and it was seized into place !
Bought 2 sets of bearing kits for total £22 from local supplyer. and again much needed help from my mate.
part of the bearing on the passenger side had seized onto the Stub axel ! and after alot of trying it wasnt going to move. due to the location no real available power sockets so out with the extra long cable and a dremel drill with diamond disk cutter and cut through the bearing ring to cut it off the stub axel.
Plain sailing after that replaced both sides fairly quickly, used some extra grease just to be safe.
----------
Sunday Evening, left parents house were i had been staying to go back home. was amazed at how smooth the car was driving and how quiet it was running. was even talking to myself testing out audio levels with the radio off traveling at 60mph ( crazy i know but im sure other people have done this )
managed to over take a slow moving tractor and just as i got past him i felt a judder from the driver side rear wheel quickly shot across onto the hard shoulder and came to a stop, got out and checked the wheel and i was able to move it a bit as the drum was moving. not safe to inspect it while on the busy motorway so managed to creep up to a country slip road a few feet in front of me.
quickly jacked up the car to inspect thinking something might have just come loose and was HOPING i coulda fixed it road side. no such luck all the bearings fell out and the toothed nut was mangeld along with the pin it was a dissaster. part of the Stub axel had sheared clean off to the point the Alloy and attached Drum coulda came clean off from the car while doing 60mph !!
Got the AA out to give a tow lucky im a member so all covered there. as i was waiting who happens to just drive by out of the blue... "MY Mechanic" he was just heading down the slip road as a shortcut and this is road is about 5 miles out from were he lives he had no real reason to be going down this slip raod that i just so happened to break down on. Was soo strange but i was soo happy to see him. He told me to get it towed to his place and leave it there and he would take care of it. theres only 4 bolts and a handbrake cable holding the stub axel on so should be easy fix but in know il end up paying for his labour in the end
After this ... SURLEY .... Thats everything fixed for a long while. ( p.s - its due for MOT around the start of June, it better SAIL through with flying colours )

yup every time i do anywork like this its normaly when im under pressure to do it quick .. hense not using a torque wrench. At least i know what my #1 birthday present is gona be.matty589 wrote:Bit of bad luck that mate. Did u do the rear hub nut up tight?
ive now come to realise .. again .. how vital it is that each bolt no matter how trival it may seem is correctly tighten to the stated messurment in the manual
hopefully it will be back on the road again soon, and this time .. im not toutching a thing !! lol

Yea it is good to torque mate. But ur not ment to do the rear hub nut up tight because of the type of bearing its ment to be niped up so all the play is gone then u put the split pin in to stop it coming undone. Don't no if that's what u done ?

Well there was that strange rattle that was doing my head in.neil22 wrote:Gutted mate how's it looking? I would of been poo my self. Just a quick question, how was the noise befor this happened? Quiet enough to here your self talk?
Bit of a Droning sound from the engine before all the work was done.
And a bit of a hum and squeak from the rear wheels.

Re: Corsa B 1999 1.2 16V
Not sure but the sooner the better im hoping i get it back Thurs / Fri , cause it shouldnt be that hard to fix.neil22 wrote:When u get her back?
Regards the Stub axel part, i rang around a few supplyers and none of them had them and dont normaly keep something like that in stock.
So i rang up Vauxhall themselfs and asked about it in the parts department, they wanted £115 for it, and didnt include a new washer or castle nut.
Seen them on ebay for £25 but didnt wana wait a few days for it to come in the post...
Managed to find a local scrap yard that had it for £20, and when i asked if it came with the castle nut and washer he was like.. "Oh yea, Drum and all !!"
il pick it up 1st thing 2mora morning and drop it off to mechanic, he was happy enough me finding the parts cause it saves him the hastle, and that way i know hes not gona be buying a part that costs a bomb ! and prob adding VAT on top. over all im hoping i just have to pay him for his time.
