Thanks, Buddy
I'm thinking that if I'm going to do it, might as well do it properly.
Yes, it's all about having fun, but it's not fun being the bloke at the back of the pack lol

Managed to squeeze a bit of time in to work on it this afternoon.
Decided to overhaul the Astra calipers. They were absolutely disgustingly filthy. The brake fluid left in them was black. Though they looked terrible on the outside, everything is in good condition. No ridges or grooves on the piston or in the cylinder. The actual seal still looks good, but I'd rather replace them all the same. Unfortunately the spares shop only had one kit. So I can't finish them yet
Anyway - stripped them, and scrubbed 'em in diesel. Then attacked them with a wire brush...
Came out nicely I think
I then stuck a can of high-heat black in my son's hand and told him to get busy on those calipers while I tackle the hub carriers. He did a top job of it. Will take a pic tomorrow if I remember
As I started cleaning the hubs, I noticed a bit of play... So off to the shops this week to go buy some new wheelbearings. Will ask our maintenance guys at work if I can use the press for a bit
Though it's frustrating not being able to put as much time in on the car as I'd like, I'm quite happy with the rate of progress so far. Hope I can keep going on at this pace

Thanks, Man!
Calipers painted black
However, when I got home tonight my son was busy with them calipers. He recons it's silly spending a small fortune on brakes and then they look boring. So he's busy painting them lol

No it's not high temp. It is good quality paint though, so maybe I'm lucky and it survives the first couple of testing sessions lol

No real updates at this stage. Had the flu, and had to work this weekend
Still need to go pick up the rear axle, then I can get the car standing on its wheels again.
Have however attacked the centre console with a jigsaw
. Seeing as I won't have a heater in the car, I won't be needing the heater controls. So now I'm going to use that space for something useful. Busy sorting it with fibreglass - hope it turns out like I planned lol
Also stumbled on a set of bike throttles.
. Should make for some interesting noises...

Yup - just the standard oil pressure, oil temperature and water temperature. Then also the ignition panel, battery cut-off switch and two petrol pump switches.
Should look very race-car-like then lol

Found this lot for a decent price. Will keep this for tinkering after the car actually runs. Don't think I'll need them to make the power I require, but it will be interesting to see what they do

So for the first time in about a month I found the time to swing some spanners again
Fitted the front calipers with the old disks - only want to fit the new disks and pads when I'm going to the track. Fella who sold them to me gave me very specific bedding-in instructions which I intend to follow to the letter
Got the rear axle back with the anti-roll bar. Keen to see what this does to the rear end in terms of handling
Seeing as I had it, I thought I might as well fit it. Also did the new springs and shocks
Put new seals in the rear brakes after some use of black paint
Addes some new wheelbearings, put the old drums and shoes back (still good) and put a wheel back on the car - feels like a small victory haha
Put some new tie-rod ends on the steering rack, put that back in the car, and put the front wheels on.
We have touchdown!!!!
Still need to do the left rear's brakes - was waiting for paint to dry, so I packed it in for today. Will finish that tomorrow, then the car will be on its wheels again for the first time in about two months
Then it will be off to TNT for the rollcage (once all the people who owe me money pay me)
