yeah thats the main reason i posted it because it supposed to be a 300bhp engine. (the topic was about, \'are xe engines fast\') I prefer the more subtle, lowkey look as i imagine you do too?
It doesn\'t say it\'s a 300bhp engine, it says that the shafts can cope with 300bhp, which they can

Didn\'t see that bit the first time around - what a joker lol.
If it is a 240bhp XE you\'d want to know a bit more about the spec of the internals than just \"pistons, crank, valves\" lol

Going back to the original,
Fast is different to people based on experience, going back 5 yrs ago a friend of mine had an EVO 3, this was tuned by Ralliart in Birmingham to give a genuine 300bhp AT THE WHEELS. I had a 2.0 16v Red-Top Nova running again proven 145bhp AT THE WHEELS.
I couldn\'t get near him!!!!
Traction is the biggest killer in any FWD drive car.
With regards to 3.0 V6 Corsa that is for sale on EBAY the V6 is no race engine because the V angle of the engine design is too steep (55deg) and an imense fly wheel! However it does make it hard to wheel spin (unless you change the flywheel) therefore aiding accleration. On the down side it is again more weight in the front of the car, which will knacker up your handling.

Sorry just dont get it?? all that extra weight, moving the engine forward, it all upsets the balance, great in straight line but what about corners??? I stick with my x16xe and work with that as it weighs about 2/3rds the c20xe and Vauxhall admitted that the (c)x16xe was a much smother and reliable engine than the 2L, and as anyone who knows SBD in Surbiton will tell you 180bhp in somthing weighing less than 900kg moves!
A sport womble is for life not just for christmas!

Drive a Corsa with an XE and you\'ll realise all these people moaning about the extra weight being a problem haven\'t really driven one of these on the road.
If you find you can\'t keep the car on the road, then you need to learn how to drive to suit the conditions.

When was this ever said? Down the pub maybe... The 16XE engines are no more or less reliable than the 20XEs and how is smoothness measured?

Yup.
For some, the 16XE is the way to go. Insurance or maybe the car is being built for trackdays.
Saying that, Roy Gravestock used to compete in a Nova with a 20XE on throttle bodies back in the late 90\'s and never complained about the front being too heavy.
Those fitting a 16XE just to be different are idiots. Maybe they live their life as one big willy-waving competition but if they want to be different, they should just drive with a traffic cone strapped to their roof.

is an xe fast? hmmm? like someone said earlier, it is fast if you\'ve been pootling around in a 1.1/1.2/1.4 for a few years. i was the same when my mate converted his. i was like \"i\'ve got to get me one of these\". and i did! mine\'s got chip, cams overbored to 2050cc, and that felt faster than his standard xe. but now i\'ve had it nearly a year it feels slow or \"normal\" now, and my mates saying the same about his. i\'m sure if i had an let dropped in i\'d be saying the same in another years time. all i\'m saying is that everything feels fast at first but after a while you\'ll want something quicker

i think both engines are poor the c16xe in the earlier gsi was the worst they smoked when they come from the factory possibly 20 a day and the x20xev ispossibly a good engine if you could stop the manifolds cracking and studs breaking off oh and oil leeks and then the dreaded blue smoke again.id stick with the 8v and day for thrashabilaty cause the are sutch a strong engine BULLET PROOF!
