Idling Problem
Seem to have a problem with the idling ... think I read somewhere in the thread someone having a similar problem, I changed the idling valve a couple of months ago, and also changed the rubber pipe thingy that goes between the air intake and the carburettor body... (£37 from Vauxhall....£2 scrappers)...
Was running ok till the other day, now when I pull up at junctions the rev’s rise to about 3000 then drop slightly then back up and then drop to 900 which’s what they’re supposed to be.... it doesn’t do this all the time though this is what is so puzzling...
PS
Glad I registered wi this site it answered one other question I had so thanks hope I can now sort this problem out with your help... thanks in advance of any suggestions or help
Paul

The ICV, when you changed it, was it a brand new item or 2nd hand? If its 2nd hand, did you give it a good clean out with carb cleaner prior to fitting it??
It does still sound like ICV the way its hunting around and sticking, the only other thing I can think of is possible a vac leak somewhere... or maybe the EGR valve starting to fail...
Do a paperclip test and read the codes if you can, and see if any codes come back.

If you follow through that link I posted, it will talk you through the process. Basically it allows you to 'flash' the codes (if any) which are stored in the ecu on the dash.
£25 seems cheap, so I assume thats a pattern part then, and not from from Vaux themselves?? VX retail them at £77+VAT (I can get genuine GM one for £57.75+VAT), so definately pattern... (personally I don't rate pattern parts, but they do the job I suppose)
I'll have a word with adam about this one though aswell, he might have a few ideas himself...

Hiya
like i said it was ok for a while ... (was quite expensive for me that .... lol)...
Just thought i'd add as well .. the Engine managment light's not coming on ... on the dashboard?... not sure if thats any help .... when i had to replce the ICV the light was on on the dashboard ....
i can leave it ticking over after it's settled dwn an it will idle at 900 no prob's... and when i'm driving seems ok .. just taht at times when i stop at lights etc .. the rev's go upto 3000.... back dwn an up an then drop to what it should be ... have since ad a look at the VAc pipes or the ones i can see .. they seem ok .. even took air manifold off to have alook at Gasket that seemed ok though 2 bolts were loose on the top the were not even finger tight ......
