Help!

Hi Guys

Firstly, please forgive my ignorance, I know nothing about corsas, I generally deal with Hondas!

Basically, I'm fixing a mates car thats having a few problems. It's a 1.2 16v on an s-plate. I've seen a few topics about similar problems, it struggles when it starts for a few seconds but then the revs pick up and it idles normally. The revs fall very low if you blip the throttle, sometimes it even cuts out, but if not it pulls itself back up to normal idle speed. apparently sometimes it hesitates whils driving, and the problem is worse when there is more fuel in the car.

I've checked the plugs and coil pack. both are fine. I read a few articles about the Air Flow Meter, so i tried disconnecting that, as someone said they had tried that and it solved the problem, but that didnt work, it would catch, but stall immediately. I want to try and replace the fuel relay board (which I eventually found behind the light switch, despite the service book saying it's in the engine bay) but I have 4 relays on the board and nothing to tell me which is which?

Does anybody know which is the fuel relay? :/

The fuel pump relay is the Purple relay, its actually located next to the ECU itself (behind the drivers kick panel)

The symptoms to me are more ICV based (the idling specifically), but if the problem is more apparent when the car has more fuel in it as you say, it 'could' be the fuel pump itself, or something obstructing the feed.

Also, any idea when the fuel filter was last changed? May be worth doing that too.

Hi Paul

Thanks for the answers mate, just had a look though and there are no relays by the ECU at all :(

tbh this car seems very odd its a 5 door gls with 1.2 16v ecotec. theres no dizzy/ht leads, just a coil pack that sits directly on the plugs. the manual says the relay board is in the engine compartment, and it's not, its behind the switch for the lights... it's like nothing i've ever worked on!

I literally just have the 4 relays behind the dash, thats it :/ (see pics)

I'm picking up a new fuel filter tomorrow. just odd how I cant find this relay... especially as I'm pretty sure its the cause!

and also where is the EGR? I hear cleaning this may help...

Ifeel like such a noob, i know so little about corsas! :shy: I may have to buy one just to learn!

when you open the bonnet, top left as you look at it there maybee a black box below the windscreen next to the brake servo, the fuel relay may be in there, or above the glove box

there is a idle control valve "stepper motor" put it and clean it with carb cleaner, and clean the entive throttle body, see if that helps.

Hello Honda-boy
Did you ever find the fuel pump relay?
I'm hunting for mine on a 1999 1.2 16 V Corsa.
I've checked all the places mentioned in this thread and my story is exactly as yours (including the pictures) - can't find the relay anywhere !
I'd appreciate any help you or anyone can offer.
