Engine management light problems

Just looking for info before I stick my hand in the wallet.

Driving down the motorway the light came on, the car still drove as before apart from the engine light.
Parked up the car when i got to where i was going, came out, (the engine had cooled down by now) car started normally, engine light stayed OFF, once the engine had warmed up, the light came on again and stayed on, and its been doing that ever since, but if the engine is warm and i turn off the engine, and re start it the light stays off for a few 100 yards or so before coming back on.

Did the Paper clip test, (has the 16pin socket)
Gave me the error code of 47 (Linear exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR) position, but states no fault on the list.)

So dos this mean the EGR valve is sticking Faulty or dead?

Any help would be appreciated.

car would be a 97 corsa 1.2 merit 8v

sounds like it. my EGR valve is blcoked off, but the EML dont come on all the time. Tends to bee if i boot it and then close throttle, it doesnt get what it wants, spits dummy and throws the light. But i have managed to avoid it for ages. Seems to not come on that much now!

Its possible that the valve is sticking.

you could try cleaning the EGR Valve with a bit of carb cleaner see if it sorts it :)
