tyre sizes

Post by robscorsa »

Hello

I'm new to this forum, new to driving and just bought my first car; a perfectly wonderful 1993 1.2 LS :D

What can say, I love it, but help me on this, if you can please. I went to the TYRE SHOPPER website and found a little java-script box which came up with my car when I entered the reg. It gave a list of what it claimed were manufacturers recommendations for correct tyre specs as:
Front - 165/70R13 T 79, Rear: 165/70R13 T 79 and an alternative of
Front - 165/65R14 T 79, Rear: 165/65R14 T 79 for an upgrade.

It also provided a little animated diagram on where to check on your tyre for the details, but, according to my tyres - and I've double checked - neither of these specs match what appear to be perfectly good well fitting tyres on the car. :?

Is this unusual?
Does anyone know the manufacturers specs and are they different to those shown?

Anyone help?

Thanks, Rob

you would probably be better of checking your vehicle handbook or
sending a pm to one of our more experienced members
like corsaTD or dancotton2003
they have both given me some pretty good advice for my car already.

yea, it depends on whether you have alloy or steel wheels. the steels are narrower than the alloys, so will need a thinner tyre. The Sport/GSi alloys need 185/60R14's. So, i can well believe that the steels are about 165 or 175.
