Hello, my car makes a very loud squeeling noise sometimes when the heaters are on and im in a low gear. I think this is the fanbelt slipping. Is this hard to tighten etc and do i need to get a new one?

Re: Squeeling fan belt...
(is it only when the heaters are on)???Well basicly the car is pulling more current(amps) when you have heaters etc on ...your alternator is trying to compensate for this!!!(dont have a clue y it makes a difference what gear your in!!!? ) .. basicly its dead easy to tighten your fan belt ....(if this is the problem)... check your haynes manual (get one .. it pays off) its litteraly two or 3 bolts and your alternator moves along a rail to tighten or slacken ... dont over tighten or visa versa .. check your belt for cracks or wear ..replace if nesecary ....hope this helps ......Also my esteemd colleauge has spoken to me and in his infinate wisdom has told me that this problem could also be your water pump ...as i think it runs off the same belt and is more likley to slip at high revs...... i hope for you sake its not...(i think this is unlikley though .. but worth a check )
