Side Light problem

Post by VaegaVic »

Hi there, this is my first post about my first car so please don't beat me just yet.

Picked up my Corsa Vegas today, runs perfectly, excellent for my first little car.

Problem is, I've just noticed the front left sidelight is out. The main & full work fine.

I've bought some Xenon bulbs off ebay for about £4 that said they will fit.

Now....how would I go about fitting them?

Sorry, I'm quite new to cars.

there is two ways you can go about doin it. The easy way is to use a thin headed phillips screwdriver to prize the orange side indicator lens out. the bulb will be quite fidly to remove and replace this way and u run the risk of breaking the indicator lens. The second method and correct procedure takes slightly longer but isnt realy that difficult; you need to open the bonnet and use a 10mm socket and torque wrench to undo the bolts that pin down the wing. There are normally about 4 -5 bolts under the bonnet running vertically along each the side of the bonnet holding the wings in place. There are two near the front of the relevant wing near the front headlights and another one under the car by the door where the wing ends and door starts -rear of front wheel arch- and finally one more that you can access by opening the door of the car on the side of the indicator so that you can remove the last bolt holdin the wing in place.

In order to fully remove the wing you must remove the front bumper off the car. Three nuts under neath front of car hold bumper in place and two at front of car under the bonnet right at the front. However, this may not be possible cos off ur wheel arch trims and bumper sharing a bolt that hold both in place that cant be accessed unless you remove the plastic wheel arch liner which again present problems because of the once use only plastic pins that hold em in place...if you take em out u gotta buy new to replace em. then the liner comes straight out the wheel arch and provides access to undo nut on the bolt that attatches bumper to wheel arch trims. Then the wing can be successfully removed but only so far as you need to unclip the power cable for the indicator. The wing is now fully free from the car. The fitting left in the wing -after unclipping the power cable- indicator hole just twists round anticlock wise (lefty loosey, righty tighty) to relase it and you can now easily remove the blown bulb and replace it.
You may get away with only undoin the bolts by the door, vertical ones along top of wing under bonnet and the one under car near wheel arch/door and pull it back to see if it can come away enough to get your hand down the back to undo the clip and take out the bulb fitting as a shortcut. on this method. would save the whole bumper etc work to get the bulb changed. The wing will flex a certain amount but dont exceed its limits...im not gonna be held responsible for you goin bruce banner on it. This method is possibly the best if you can do it because u dont risk breaking the brittle stock corsa side indicators and having bit fall into the wing that will rattle round untill u sort it out by takin wing off completley cos it trapped between that and wheel liner

lol...sounds long winded but it not really that difficult but as u said ur new to this i thought i'de give u a comprehensive answer to ur question. Although sum1 else will probably say exactly the same thing in like half the words or sumin! ROLF....
Hope all goes well. If ur not sure bout it ask sum "car handy" mates to help ya maybe? Or one ur parents? U said ur first car so i assume u live at home still. no offense or anything....and they will proably be able to help you.

No offence taken in the slightest, I am only 18 after all.
Thanks for that very comprehensive answer, my dad used to be a mechanic, along with my girlfriends dad so we'll see if I can work anything out.

Thank you again.
