ignition barrel/key/ecu

Post by jar_jar89 »

So i had to get a new ignition barrel and key cos the original one worn out. The engine goes to start but the ncuts out with engine failure light flashin. I'm pretty sure this is cos the cars ecu is programmed to only start car with the right key, even if the barrel works with a different key.

So now heres my question:
Can i get a locksmith or someone similar to make the new ignition barrel work with the original key for the doors and boot? i.e. change the pins setup inside the barrel?

Cheers all

ok...so as a work around to this problem, instead of getting a new ignition, ecu and transponder ring, can i just take the immobiliser chip from the old key and gaffa tape it to the new key for the new ignition barrel to stop ecu immobilising the engine with new barrel and key for ignition?

yeh you can do that... and i think aslong as u keep the chip on the key,the insurance with the immobiliser will be okay...

just dont stick the chip onto the barrel lol
Thats not a dent.... its an aerodynamic mod :P

yeah for sure! or can be drilled out and started with screwdriver!! Dont think insurance would take kindly to that.
