With todays soaring petrol/diesel prices, are engine additives the way to go?

Looking at halfords, you can buy redex for as little as £1.30
Apparently, Redex and other additives are supposed to keep your engine running smoother, increase fuel economy etc etc. But if you think about it, evem if the redex saves you as little as £2, that's still a profit.

So yay or nay on engine additives?
Also, if you're yay, can you recommend some?

Engine additives are alright in a sense. If the engine jets etc are blocked and the piston heads are dirty then the redex etc is supposed to clean em out meaning u get a better dispersion of petrol spray. The stuff does make a bit of a difference when using it and for a couple refills after if u use standard 95 point petrol. however, when ur sayin petrol is way expensive, it just fallen to like £0.87 -£0.89 in my area. Goin up a bit cos of these strikes at oil distilation sites, but will fall again. And to fill ur car with redex would cost about £3 a litre and more expensive such as nitroshox would be like £12 a litre. Have heard of a product called "blu" (or sumin similar) that is used in rally cars, one my friends told me that they filled a rally car with pure "blu" and to car flew. Like filling a car with 100+point petrol! But that is a rally car, not quite sure on the legalities of filling ur car with weak rocket fuel. Think there must be some kind of road ratio on petrol / additive mixture.
Petol additives are a good idea maybe once or twice a year if you usin cheaper 95 point petrol. If u buy premium 98point petrol or ya baby then additives are pointless. They are only good as such for cleaning away carbon deposits left behind from the more dirty burning 95 point petrol.

only use additives once in a while. i use redex about 3 times a year only due to the amount of drivin and style of drivin i do, most people say they can tell no difference

On points petrol im sure you mean RON or octane
Octane rating does not relate to the energy content of the fuel It is only a measure of the fuels tendency to burn rather than explode
it does not mean the fuel is dirty or cleaner its just a measure of how much it can be compressed before it explodes.

i use redex usualy once or twice a year to keep the fuel injectors clean. seems to work but it isnt somthing you can tell when you drive just somthing you know about lol.
other than that a good service and your engine should be nice and clean and should run really well

i used it noticed a diffrence not put it in the new engine YET
