Hello chaps, first post in here and of course I have a problem
Well my partners has a 1995 1.2 8v, and its seriously lacking in power. I've been searching around on this forum looking for an answer or some help but havent really found much.
I've read about the MAF failing is common, but does this engine have a MAF? I stuck my head under the bonnet this evening but couldn't see anything ressembling a MAF, but I haven't worked on a vauxhall before I'm a VW man myself (don't hate on me)!
Any tips or advice you can give me would be very much appreciated!!

Re: Corsa 1.2 8v - lacking power
hi guys, i've got a 1999 1.2 16v and it was a bit lacking when i got it recently. My advice would be to find someone in your local paper who wants to give it a quick cheap service. It did the world of good and now the baby flys (well as much as you'd expect) Anyway, sometimes all it nees is a little TLC otherwise its probs somethin in the engine that might have gone?? I paid £100 to someone for a quick once over, changed a few things and it was all sorted.

the 1.2 8v only had 45bhp which is actualy less than the 1.0i 12v (which had 55bhp)
id start by doing a good service, new HT leads, plugs, oil filter, oil, air filter, give your cooling system a flush, fresh antifreeze
if you are worried about the MAF sensor you could do the old paperclip test or get someone with a fault reader to check it,
as if is faulty your ECU would stored the fault for you to see.

Thanks for the quick replies!
Well I'm pretty certain the car has been regularly serviced. My partner got it from her mum and she has used the same mechanic for some time now for all her cars.
So I don't think its a servicing issue to be honest. I did try this paperclip test but it didnt come up with any codes. I did this a while back because the engine management light was coming on every now and again. I think the light need to be on for the codes to be read, dont think the ecu can store codes.
Can't believe they only got 45hp out of a 1.2!! And thats at the fly, must be 30hp at the wheel max!? lol and its not even that economical.
Well shes booked into the same mechanic that her mum uses so he knows the car lets hope he solves it!! I'll let you know the outcome.

the resonator box on the top of the spi unit, have some vacuum pipes to the back of it, check these are not split or are fitted.
Also get it checked on diagnostics, on my 1.4 8v spi the TPS (throttle position sensor was at fault but didnt trigger the eml).
Also wouldnt hurt to take of the spi unit and throttle body and give it a clean, could be the throttle body is gunked up, new inlet gasket clean the inlet manifold pout maybe and also just generally check your oil breathers for blockages etc... and also check breather pipes for splits or if they are collapsed and split
