Alternator Noise

Fitted my Kicker 5 channel amp, jbl 6x9's and vibe co-ax's and i now have the problem of alternator noise
. For those who dont know what it is, basically the cables pick up interference and you get a whining that increases with the revs of your engine.
I have tried all the basic trouble shooting answers
- my rca's, speaker cables are run on opposite sides of the car to the power cable and remote lead.
- Have grounded the amp to the rear bench seat buckles to make sure its secure
just wondered if anyone else had had the same problems and how they solved it.

how does the RCAs pickup interference from the alternator? Is the whinning a sound that increases in the speakers as you increase revs or is it a whinning sound in the engine bay that increases in pitch behind the normal revs?

its all down to the magnetic field given off from the alternator the more the engine revs the higher pitched the noise gets due to the frequency going up, the rca's just act as a type of aerial and transmit through your sub

Aye, or go down the local scrappie and pinch one of an old mini or something like that.

is the altornator from old mini coopers a direct swap then? and is it much higher output?

i think you missed the point there ! alot of older cars minis and the like were common for the same problem probably due to old technology and most of them have had surpressors fitted or revised replacement parts would have them already fitted from new. i very much doubt a mini alternator would fit anyhow !.worst case scenario the only other thing it could be is the alternator getting ready to fail ie, the voltage regulator thats built into it is not working properly allowing more voltage and a bigger magnetic field, however if this were the case id expect you to see other problems like the battery dieing due to over charging or blowing headlight bulbs with some sort of unusual frequency. does that make sense and i hope this helps and has not confused you even more !

lol...nah that makes sense m8. i was wonderin y u were sayin get a mini alternator for a corsa....but after lookin a bit harder i see that the orignal minis had 50amp alternators...as power consumption grew cos of speakers, headunits etc improvin and usin more power they made a newer 70amp alternator. I dont think the failing bit applies to me...mine is workin fine but just thinkin i might need a higher output as im plannin on puttin fair bit more speakers etc in. but i think i get the jist of where ur goin.
