Tappets? help !!!

HI i have recently been hearing tapping noises coming from my engine whilst running it and its cold ..it goes away when its warmed up ...iv'e been lead to belive that this is my tappets ..tapping if you like lol .....Ive been told that my tappets can be adjusted using feeler gauges and simple tool box tools (not beyond my knowledge and hand skills) ..yet i know only this can be achived if i do not have hydraulic tappets ....i need to know ..does my corsa have hydraulic tappets or ones i can adjust myself ? ..my corsa is a 1.4 8valve x14sz engine .... please help ...thanks!!!!! matt !!

That tapping noise is almost certainly your tappets. You do have hydraulic tappets, and this is why they stop tapping when the car warms up as they fill with engine oil to self adjust and if the oil is cold they won't work aswell so nothing to wory about.
Although I would sugest an oil and filter change as it is common for hydraulic tappets to get clogged up with old oil and dont self adjust properly. You can also buy an addative you put in your engine oil that is supposed to help clean them out. you can get it from your local motor factors or Halfords, its called Wynnes or something I can't remember.

AHH cheers fella!!! ..yeah i did susspect that my tappets were hydraulic.....i did an oil and filter change yesterday actully to try and combat the problem and admittedly they have quietend down a little bit..i will try and get some of that addative you speak of..just to keep the engine in good working order really.....when i did my oil change i found a white/brown mayonaise type stuff round my filler cap ..which i suspected was water in my system but iv'e been informed that this is just the amount of small journeys i do (condensation) ...so i figured that this was clogging my tappets maybe ..so the oil change has done it some good ....anyway ....MOT time 2moz ..wish me luck !!!!! cheers again !!!1
