so i've been thinkin about the possibility of painting the car myself lol. probs wont tbh but hypothetically could u sand and prime and spray the car with aerosol spray paint for car body panels for repairs of scratches/chips or colour coding bumpers etc to change the colour of the entire car? i know it would take a while and u would really wanna remove all the panels body panels and do it in a heated, ventilated room. But does standard repair paint dry hard enough? like are there hardners in the paint or would be be better advised to try to find epoxy spray paint that has seperate epoxy harding agent in the can that makes the paint dry harder than standard spray paint. Basically has any1 here known of standard aerosol (say halfords ) spray paint once laquered to last long on actual car body work. I've done satin black on the wheel trim arches cos they were grey for some reason originally about 8-9months ago and they are fine. Washed em in automated car washes and with hot pressure washers and they still fine. Would paint on metal dry to the same hardened state once clear coted/laquered? might try to do it on a wing or sumin from a local scrappers for a test run first and if it goes well then ill replace it with one on the car and carry on with other parts lol. If it comes out unacceptable then it just be even more motivation to go get it professionally sprayed! if i do this it wont be till summer time once the weather is good and i've got the time. just want some feedback/general concensus on the topic. been lookin into it pretty hard tonight but dont know if i would really do it myself for real. if i do do a wing or anythin ill let u all know how it goes.

i really wouldt advise it lol..ur not gonna get a good enough finish on the bigger panels if ur using spray cans lol...

Yeah would'nt advise it either. I know it'll prob cost a bit, but you know it will be done right.

yep...thats wat i was thinkin...but it would be well good to be able to say i painted my own car. would probs have to use like 20 layers of laquere from spray cans or every time sumin hits the car paint would come flakin off.

so looks like il be doing the colour coding after all...gotta decide if im gonna use cans or just get an airgun for compresser.

I have sprayed two vintage tractors up to date, and i can say its not too difficult with alot of practice. One tractor is entered into shows etc and wins prizes and im NO paint sprayer. It will turn out poo doing it with spray tins mate. The paint wont be flat and you'll have major orange peel, prob sooooo bad you wont be able to mop out. The way to do it is get a compressor/spray gun etc and have a practice 1st. When you confident enough, have a bash at doing the car.

yeh thats what i was thinkin...i have use of a compressor at my house so just get a spray gun and off i go lol

i think ill just save up an get a propa spray job done. cant be learning to paint with compressor while im at uni

I know someone who saved some money by rubbing it down and priming it himfself before sending it for a profesional painting. But I wouldnt it requires alot of time, and a large clean garage.

cus they're not usually in good condition in scrappy so they take as much as they can for em lol.
