Multi Functional Display
Hi people, i have a 1998 Corsa Merit 1.0 12v, its an entry level model and it comes with a lack of equipment such as no rev counter, electric windows, central locking and the multi functional display. I can imagine most of these being either hard, expensive or impossible to install into my car but i really want to install a multi functional display (the bit that displays the time/date and temperature). I was wondering whether it is possible to actually have one installed to a basic model such as mine as i was thinking that there might not be the wires etc to make the display work. If it is possible, is it a D.I.Y job or does it have to be taken to a specialist (e.g. vauxhall dealer) because iv already had a quote for my heater control lights to be replaced at £90 .

Re: Multi Functional Display
I think the connector to plug the MFD into should be somewhere tied up behind the dash but not 100%.
And for the temp display to work your going to need to get and install a sensor which goes behind the front bumper.
I'm sure someone else on here can back me up on this.

Okay that's good news I may pay a visit to the scrap yard later, how much would they usually charge for one?

Re: Multi Functional Display
Sorry to interrupt but....
In Mrs's corsa, she has one of those MFD on top of the dash, with the clock and date in the small display bit. At the moment its not working, well i dont think it is.
If i look at an angle in the sunlight i can see the numbers, date and time still working (slightly out, however still working) but 99% of the time its just black and you cant see anything. Ive tried changing the fuse, ripping out the MFD, fiddling with wires etc but just can't seem to get it working.
Any help is massively appreciated!

Re: Multi Functional Display
your bulbs have probably gone behind the display take it apart again and put some new ones in there. if you wnat thier are LED kits you can buy if you want it different colours.
Do you have lights behind your heater controls the bulbs behind there are usualy the first to go so you might need to do them at the same time

I payed a visit to vauxhalls parts center (part of masterfit), i got a quote for the cost of the MFD unit and the installation of it.. the actual display screen cost £179.99, the casing around it cost £10 and it cost around £80-£90 for them to install it pretty darn expensive

Re: Multi Functional Display
Get one of ebay and fit it yourself. Far cheaper and it's easy.

Right i'm inside my car now and I have opened up the center console, problem is I don't know what the connector looks like and where it is (plug and wires) the only wires visible are the ones that connect to my cd player... ??

I still cannot find the plug/connection wires for the unit, there are non under the ventilation system. The unit I ordered had an inch worth of a group of coloured wires already plugged into the back?
Any help would be much appreciated ??
