Headlight Adjustment Motor

Changed my headlight bulbs earlier, needed quite a bit of force to get the power connector off the dipped/main beam. The headlights move between positions 3,2,1 fine but when going to 0 the drivers side motor moves the light up, clunks and comes back down about once every second (Same with no bulb in).
Took it down the local garage to have it realigned properly, but being friday afternoon they didn't have much time to look at it. They couldn't find what was wrong with the motor, and not having the time to strip bumper off just disconnected it and aligned as it was. Not entirely convinced the bumper needs to come off but whatever, they didn't charge me so not sure if they just couldn't be arsed to look into it.
Any clues as to what's wrong with it? Not sure if something's misaligned on the motor or I've broken it, but they're only £1 on ebay so would rather not be charged full price + labor at a garage to get this sorted.
