Welcome to the site
Saying your car is a breeze doesn't realy help much we need to know what engine is in your car, if your not sure look at the link below and tell us which one it looks like.

As for the piston reing most vauxhall engines have the same bore size and the rings are a common size so should be easy to get hold of, unless at some point the engine has been rebored and oversized pistons put in. The oversize pistons would still be a standard size and rings wouldn't be too difficult to get hold of.
What is wrong with the car that has ment it to be in the garage for a year and the piston rings changed, corsas are cheap and so are the engines its usualy chaeper to replace the engine than do major work on them.

cheers for the reply, its the X14SZ 1.4i, 8v 59 bhp r (97).
um the garage said id fryed the rings and i recon blew the head gasket as the oil cop had beautiful buttery maonase on it if i owned the car i would never havesent it 2were it is but as my grand parents own the car 4 insurence reasons it had 2 go with their guy not mine

For your first question where the air ducting hose splits into two and half goes into a black box that seems to be an extension of the airbox, its a secondary air pump it works to heat up your engine quicker when you first start it, it switches off once your engine is warm.
Mayo under the oil cap is a sign of head gasket failure, BUT if I saw mayo under the oil cap I would look for other signs first as mayo doesn't always mean heaad gasket failure. If you do alot of short jurneys so your engine doesn't have time to get up to temperature before you get where your going or and if you do a lot of city driving so your engine is mostly staying at low revs then you will also get mayo under the oil cap.
Its caused from water condensation under the oil cap this mixes with the oil and makes mayo, you get condensation from short jurneys because the top of the engine doesn't get hot enough to evapourate the water, once its evapourated it gets sucked through the breather pipe and mixes with the air in the intake. motorway jurneys reduce mayo because the revs are much hiegher and the engine is hot and bits of mayo get sucked into the intake through the breather.
If the piston rings are getting changed then the head gasket has to be done at the same time away.
What was the initial problem that meant the car had to go into the garage, worn piston rings and head gasket failure would give low compresion and therefore a loss of power. A pressure test of each cylinder would tell you if you have loss of compression.
To be honest if piston rings had gone in my engine depending on how bad it was I would just keep driving with reduced power or if it was bad replace the engine.
