95 CORSA MERIT - FUEL LIGHT?

Hi everyone,

The MRS recently got a Merit 1.4i Auto 3dr, and I've stolen it off her. Its a great car for the price with only 83k and FSH. (FOC)

However, I wondering whether it has a Low Fuel Light, that comes on when you're about to run out. I'm loving the basic No-Frills spec of the Merit, but can't believe Vauxhall was so tight, not to include a fuel light! The gauge is in the red paint, unless I park downhill, when it rises a few marks.

The other lights seem to work (Oil, Brake, Auto Light, Engine Management etc...), but just wondered if I'm gonna see a fuel light, or just conk out soon.

Cheers, and thanks for your help in advance. More dumb questions will probably follow.

Ive heard other poeple compain that they have on light but I have one and though they would put it in every car as its only a bulb.

Watch the guage when you turn the ignition on my light come on then as it takes a second or two for the needle to rise. It might just be that the bulb has gone or vauxhall realy were that tight they didn't put a bulb in, it not that hard to take the dash out to replace bulbs.

I don't think the light comes on untill your at the bottom of the red and then there is still about 2 litres left I think ive never gone that low I don't wanna look like a plonker walking down the road with a fuel can.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll check at lunchtime.

Where abouts does your light come on? The Merit has the basic dash with no Rev counter, and looks like a couple of spaces are available for a light on the lower right. But this is obviously on the other side to the fuel gauge!

oh maybe the dials with no rev counter doesn't have one, but it lights up in mine behind the little picture of a fuel pump

It's the actual petrol tank on the gauge that lights up, but there's no bulb (or space for one) on the non-rev counter electronic driven clocks, assume it's the same for cable driven.

Clocks without a rev counter don't have the low fuel warning light.

Thanks. I think the fuel light is only a preparation for getting out and pushing light though - it comes on so low down on the scale i never see it (unless the car is on a hill). I wudnt like to keep running the car with the fuel light on for too long

I can go about 40 miles or son whilst the lights on. It's amazing how far I can get running on hopes and dreams!

Really? wow. That red shaded area must be huge then - cause i can run it for at least 40 miles b4 i get the light coming on and if you say another 40 miles with the light on then thats 80 miles in total. Thats quite a lot of petrol that is lol

fit some clocks with a rev counter, as these have a light and it works too :)
