check that your brake pads are not down to the metal,

Are you getting a scrapping/grinding sound when braking? or as above is it sort of a whine/hum when turning etc?

You really need the wheel off the ground to check for wheel bearing play whilst your there you can chyeck the pad too if you like, you need to grab the wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock and try to rock the wheel, if you try from 3 and 9 o'clock you might pick up steering arm/rack play or lower arm movement instead of wheel bearing movement, thats why you check at 12 and 6 (remember though that you can pick up bottom ball joint play it 12 and 6 too).

to check your pads and disc you will find its easier to see if you take the wheek off, the pads should be a minimum of a few mm thick
