hi there,
i bought my 1.6 corsa in january at 74k, it is now at 81k. i know the timing belt should be changed around about now but i forgot to ask the guy i bought the car from if he'd already changed it. and now i cant get in touch with him. is there any way of being able to tell if it has already been changed?

Just do it anyway. best to be sure.

Have a look at it, if it looks fine then leave it or replace it if your worried.

Take a look at the belt to see if you can spot any writing on the belt, If its still a g.m. belt or the writing has worn off then you will know it needs changing, If the writing is still visable and the belt is a generic belt and the surface isn't shiny then chances are its been changed.

generaly 60k miles is about average for belts, but a.d. says 40k for the 16v 1.6, and 40+80k for the 8v 1.6, so either way you are probably ready for a timing belt according to the book,

Is there not a sticker on the belt cover or anything telling when the belt was changed (if ever), most new belts come with a sticker for the mileage.
