Corsa 1.0 12v non-starter

Post by 18jonesy »

Hi all, im new to the corsa scene so go easy.

Ive just got my first corsa, so im not sure what is supposed to light up when the ignition is on.

First off, the 'engine electrics' light is on when the ignition is on and stays on.

Fuel is getting into all three cylinders and ive just replaced the spark plugs, but the engine is just turning over and not even trying to fire!

Has anyone had the same issue.

P.S. im only used to working on bikes, but i'm quite mechanically minded.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Rob.

The 12V seems to dislike bad batteries, I had this problem where it would crank but not fire at all and I know a few other people who had the same problem, each time it was solved by a new battery.

Had a very similar fault on my g/f corsa 1.0 12v envoy, turning but not firing (engine management light flashing) After changing a number of things turned an earth cable from the ecu to the battery was needed. Now starts first time everytime for the last few months no probs.

However another known fault seems to be the crankshaft sensors on these. Sometimes you can get it started then it will stall and never fires again when turning.

Hope this helps

Yeah cheers Mike, thats a great help I'll check that out.

Cheers all Rob.

Update; I got the diagnostics done this morning and crank sensor it was.

Got a new one for £17, fitted it and it still doesn't start.

I cleaned and gapped the new plugs and it turned over and spluttered just before the battery died. (hasn't spluttered before).

So hopefully a new battery will spin it quick enough to fire up.

Thanks all for your help, Rob.

P.s. I've started a project log.

I've put a new battery on and it spluttered again.

I think the fuel may not be getting to the cylinders quick enough, as the plugs were dryish.

When the ignition is put on should you be able to hear the fuel pump? because i cant.

engine management light on at all (constant or flashing) when trying to start?

condition of fuel filter, sparks, air filter, coil or distributor pack?

Could try cleaning the egr valve?

Bit of a delay there but, everythings as it should be.

Management light goes out, great spark and gapped correctly, standard air filter clean, compresion is 150 on 2 cylinders and 130 on the other.

Im going to completely drain all the fuel system, at the weekend and clean all the injectors.

If still no luck then, could it be the ecu??

Whats the condition of the fuel filter, that maybe worth a change, then try the injector cleaner. If you have checked the sparks and coil pack distributor, could be blocked fuel filter, lines or injectors, also check air filter and surroundings. The ECU doesn't appear to be throwing up any errors then I wouldn't have thought it would be that.

Hi
I had the same problem with my car and it turned out to be the crank shaft position senor
A way to check this is to check for a spark at the plugs.

I found this difficult with the Block arrangement of the coil pack / plug leads.
If you get your hands on a stobe light and connect it between the plug connection and the plug.
Then crank the engine if light fails to flash then no spark.

You can check the senor by putting a meter across the terminals

Good call but i was getting a spark before i had a diagnostic check done.

The diagnostic check threw up the crank sensor, which i replaced the same day.

But its still a non starter im afraid :?

this may be a silly thing to say but worth an idea i suppose

by any chance have you got the original key or is it a spare one

if its a spare one it may not have been coded or something i no i got a spare key not been (coded) and all it does is just turn the engine over not start

but the key that is coded to the car fires up straight away

maybe silly but just thought of it really

sorry if no help
