CORSA 1.4 16V ENGINE SWOP

Post by LORDPSK »

I have just bought myself a 1998 1.4 16 Corsa GLS, I bought it with a cracked cylinder head/Non runner for £180, MOT till Feb 2010.

I need to replace the engine its the ecotec 16v 1.4 engine, what other cars will the same engine come out of, are all 16v 1.4 Corsa engines the same around 1998 and any other problems I might run into.

A "friend" suposeably a mechanic said that some had the crank sensor on and some did not, anybody shed more light on that.

All replies appreciated

Steve

I think they may be slightly different before 1997 only the corsa GSI had that engine, all other corsas before 1997 were 8v.
Astras and Tigras have the same engine, the engine code should be X14XE.

If its just a cracked head then then just swap the head.

The problem is that a seconhand cylinderhead will cost £150 on ebay, and a full secondhand running engine will cost the same from a local break that why I was just going to do a staright swop

Well its up to you but lifting an engine out is a big job,
If it were me I would get a head from a scrap yard and and recon it myself. it would be a much eaiser job

hi fella the 1.4 16v engine came in corsas tigras and astras so its fairly easy to find an engine in reasonable condition for not alot of money, but bare in mind if your gonna do things properly it wont just be a case of swapping the engine for £150 depending on the mileage of your car it would be foolish not to change the clutch while everything is out and for that matter the cambelt kit and water pump, ive just done the above on my car as the crank let go, my new engine was £150 but with everything else taken into acount it cost me about £400 to sort it. to be honest your cheaper option would be to just change the head, hope this helps bud
