Hi All,

I have the clutch cable snapped yesterday. I was probably 3 min away from a town so I managed to put it in the firsrt gear and park it within a non controlled zone, not outside in the middle of nothing.
However, just before I managed to park it the engine cut off . I beleive because the temperature went too high (as I was driving in the first gear). I could not restart. After waiting few min it worked perfectly.
So I went to buy a clutch cable and it and fitted. I started it to go home and the engine cut off again within few miles. Then I restarted it and it worked perfectly again.
The crankshaft sensor has been replaced half year ago (they charged me 160 GBP for it; the most annoing you suggested that time that it is crankshaft sensor, but I did not bother to change it myself). Since than I have driven the car few thousand miles and worked perfectly.

Do you think it is the temperature sensor? But which one?
Where is that located? I picture or explanatin would be highly appreciated.

This is a 1999 Corsa B Club 1.0 liter, 12V engine.

a temp sensor won't cause the engine to cut out.

What happens when it cuts out does the EML come on before it cuts out?
do the revs suddenly just drop?
can you catch it by pressing the clutch and giving it a rev?

Thanks for the answer.
I can not keep it on rev at all (I could when the crankshaft sensor was broken).

I think the yellow light comes on just before the engines stops. Therfore I think the electronics stops the engine.

check that its the EML and not the Battery light as the battery light will come on if the engine stalls.

Intermittent fualts are hard to diagnose.

Check your battery terminals/ground strap and engine earths it could be that they are loose/corroded and sometimes the wires can break down inside.

I checked it out,
The EML (engine electronics light ) comes on first, then the engine stops exactly when it is reaching the operating temperature.
Now it stops every time when reached the operating temperature.
Then when it cooles down it starts again and the circle starts again.

haydn1987 this what was happening to my car do you know what this is a symptom of cheers

you need to take your idle control motor out and give it a clean if this doesn't work it might need replacing.

I'm not sure what this could be, when the CTS goes it makes it difficult to start hot but doesn't cut the enigne.
What temperature does it get to when it cuts out?
the symptoms point to crank shaft sensor but you say you have had that problem and fixed it.
I would normaly tell you to do the paperclip test and see what comes up but that can't be done on a 1L 12v

The temperature when it the engine stops is between 90-95 degree.
I think I will change the temp sensor. It is not expensive I had a look at it online.

Where is that located?
Where is the crank shaft sensor located?

The reality is that even if I change both sensor myself they are the fraction of the price taking to a garage. (They charged me 160GBP for the crank shaft sensor)

it will defo be the the crank sensor there known to stop working properly on those engines and as the engine gets hot the excess heat can cause this fault as the sensor starts to get a bit dodgy
