Hello all!
Basicly when i start my car up i can hear a rattle ....it makes a consistent noise when the car is idling....when i rev the car i can't hear it yet in traffic i can hear it from inside the cabin and from the outside ..... its not a tappet noise...i've recently done oil and treatment anyway and they are fine....yet this sounds ike its coming from the alternator / timing side of the engine (x14 sz )and it was quiet to start with but ove rthe past month or so it has got slightly louder and im worried that it could be somthing to do with one of the timing pulleys or somthing becasue the noise is about that speed....can alternator bearings go ?? .. i was thinking this but my belt isnt slipping and my electrics are fine ....the bottom half of the cambelt casing is cracked and i need a new one but i dont think that is causing this noise... how do i remove the alternator pulley so i can replace the casing ... is it just the nut ???.... i need to investigate the bottome pulley as i have heard that on the x14sz the water pump and lower pulley are prone to failing .....can some one help with my problem ???
cheers
knowledgeable people come to my rescue ...i.e haydn1987 ??? lol
