heated rear window screen

hi all this morning i went out in my corsa and i turned the heated rear window screen on it worked fine and cleared the screen bu after about about 2 mins the plastic coating on the wire going in to the winow screen started to melt and smoked quit alot i turned it off and the smoking stoped when i went to check it the wire was verry hot. just wondering if any one one has had this happen to them and i anyone could offer any advice on how to fix it. i havent tried it since but when it was smoking it was still working. any advice please.

think i have fixed it now put a new earth wire on it and it worked fine.
