Re: 8v to 16v
It can't be done the oil and water channels don't line up.
I have been looking at daewoo engines, because I know a Daewoo Nexia 1.5 8v is basicaly a Vauxhall Astra with a slightly modified 1.4 8v MPI engine, all parts from this including the head can be put on a vauxhall 1.4 8v, I also know that there is 1.5 16v daewoo engine and you can swap an 8v head for 16v and this will go on a vauxhall 1.4 8v no problem.
There is also a Daewoo 1.2 8v MPI and 1.3 8v MPI engine not sure from what cars but I have been trying to see if they have the same block design and if they come in 16v.
Maybe you could make your 1.2 into a 1.3 16v MPI I don't know if any of these engines are compatible but the 1.5 definately is.

Re: 8v to 16v
just get an x14 and put it in...not too hard to get hold of, and not too hard to install.

Re: 8v to 16v
Any engine modification is gonna put your insurance through the roof.
I think you had the right idea to begin with 1.2 16v but you have to swap the whole engine loom and ECU.
it shouldn't affect your insurance to much as the 1.2 16v corsas are insurance group 2 the same as the 1.2 8v corsas.
