TDC (top dead centre) sensor is a sensor that tells the ECU when piston 1 is at its highest point.
The sensor is known as the crank sensor as it senses a certain point on the crank that coresponds to TDC.
It senses this point by using a toothed crank wheel that has a certain number of teeth cut into it and one missing tooth.
The sensor senses the teeth as they pass the sensor giving an accurate rpm reading and senses when the missing tooth passes which is TDC.
