hi guys!
I recently purchased a 2000 corsa envoy 12v 973 cc engine model X10XE. mileage is: 72000. Car only serviced once at 54000 miles!
is it chain driven? i wanna know if my engine needs a new timing chain? after start up the car sounds great, but about 5 minutes in, it starts to make a tapping noise.....sounds like a diesel?
I was thinking of getting car booked in for a service, maybe?
also does it need anything else replacing with the timing chain, such as water pump, cambelt tensioners etc? besides this, what else needs doing at service?
cheers, stevie

the 1.0 12v is done by a chain, and they are pretty hardy
it could be worn or loose, get em to check it
does it sound like a sort of ticking noise? if so its most likely the tappets, especialy if its not had a service since 54000 miles!
try a service fresh oil might unstick em, or maybe they need a clean again get the garage to have alook.
for a service since it hasnt had one for a while id reccomend going for a full service

tappets are small bits of metal mountd on a spring that open and close the valves
basicly your camshaft spins, and the lobes move the tappets which open the intake and exuast valves

ive had a ticking noise on my corsa. In my case it was oil. I did an oil change and have been topping it up regularly.. when it gets low again and the indicator comes on it starts to sound like a transit if i dont top it up. It has a more transit-like sound at the top end of the gears and kind of ticks when idle.
If your inclined to do so do an oil change, if not at least top it up with some oil and see if it helps.

Mine was making a loud tapping noise when the engine was hot. Especialy after a hours run. Didn't do it when cold.
Got local garage to change timing chain and now my engine is completely silent when idle. I had this done at 65,000miles and he said the chain was very warn.
I personaly would recommend anyone with a x10xe or x12xe to have this done all tho the chains are suppost to outlast the engine. It is very costly tho as cost me around £300 incl labour.
