the bottom bracket has snapped because of rust and dirt, it rattles when i give the car high revs and its doing my head in lol.

It's called an exhaust heat shield.

i dont think its needed i have a similar engine and was advised to rip it out by a mate but couldnt get the bolts out also it would make hot air go in my induction kit so i dunno :S?

go scrapyard for one

You could rip it out, all it does is help stop (even more) hot air from getting into the engine bay (air intake) and sapping engine power.

my m8 has a black 1.4 sport with the 1.6 conversion

he told me to open my bonet and he told me to remove that shield in the tone that i was some form of idiot for not doing so already :S
