right then, started my corsa up yesterday and it started reving the tits off its self went up to 2.5 thousand revs and then gradually dropped but still no to where it usually is. so i cleaned the carb and tried it, same thing happened. tried to clean the idle control valve and ended up breaking it so got a new one for £60. tried it again still did it. thought the ecu mite be abit confused so disconnected the battery over night....and still no luck.
clean the airflow meter which looked brand new (vauxhall quoted me 220 for a new 1  ) and still the same.

and know i'm out of ideas, i've also noticed like a bit of a chain rateling sounding noise from the engine today, could this be linked.

help guys i'm all pooped out. :(

Hey mine is doing the same - even worse as the weather has turned cold. Changed the MAF and the idle control valve so far. Done the disconnect the batter bit - even tried disconnecting the EGR - orange light on the dash but not sure if that's made a difference - tomorrow morning will tell. Did you manage to find the "cause" with yours?

I seemed to have solved the problem with mine - a trip to the local garage could find nothing "wrong" although the EGR was running at just over 1 volt when it should have been under - so I changed it (£150 thanks - plus the £50 for the garage advice). Changed - and not solution! Was just about to get replacement ECU when i read a post that said they need to be unlocked to work on a new car so I purchased an "Op Com" engine diagnostic device (runs from a Laptop).

In short nothing obvious was showing but there is an option to "test" components - engine not running but ignition on. I went through every item I could find (from EGR, to ICV to tank vent). When I'd finished and started the engine - result! Car now starts and runs up to 1,300 rpm when cold but doesn't pulse - quickly slows down, dropping to a steady 900 when warm. When driving the car doesn't "hang on" when the the throttle is released and now drives smoothly at slow speeds.

Whilst there are comments that disconnecting the battery clears the memory after an hour or so I don't think this was happening and somewhere in the memory the settings for a throttle valve covered in sh*te was causing a problem when all cleaned out.

I'm sure a garage could purge the ECU or you could go for an "Op Com" device (on e.Bay for circa £40). Knowing then what I know now would have saved me circa £210 (£150 EGR, £40 ICV, £10 temp sender and £50 garage fees - less cost of item). Of couse this may have been very particular to my car but I suspect not.

I hope this helps
