Re: K&N Air Filter
im gonna take a stab in the dark and guess you are on about a cone air filter? like this:
http://www.fasterfilters.co.uk/57-0368.jpg
once your engine heats up, your air filter will suck hot air into your injection module instead of cold air, which combusts better, so your car will be great wen its cold (wen ur not supposed to be hoking it) once it warms up it runs like its running on a mini moto engine!
keep your standard air box get a decent filter ( im using a cheapo halfords one at the minute but it works!) and you can de-restrict it by just hammering out a pipe on the top of it easy enough comes off with a bit of force
if your wanting the filter for the noise, you can drill holes on the bottom of it but tbh your better off with a straight through center section and a good backbox

Re: K&N Air Filter
I've had a K&N cone filter in my airbox for 5+ years, never a problem.

Re: K&N Air Filter
Do you have to have a K&N?
I remember a test with different filters, which used an Astra-G 1600 16V as a test.
They tested a number of cones, panel filters, and airbox mods to see which ones worked, and which ones did not. If I recall, the K&N panel was OK, but the best panel filter for BHP gains was the Pipercross foam replacement element. The K&N did give a better nose though.
If you keep the panel filter, de restrict your airbox (as already mentioned), and remove the first couple of inches of inlet pipe (from the slam panel above the radiator). This has a nesty narrow bit on the end, and can be replaced with 6 inches of aluminium convoluted hose (the silver crinkly duct hose!!). This should help at higher revs. It is also cheaoer than a Viper kit or similar.

Re: K&N Air Filter
i use a greencottom airfilter panel , box has been de-restricted , still have the old air pipe in place but have a extra hose running into the bottom of the air box wich im hoping to drill a hole in bumper and fit it there . so should be the perfect induction kit .

Re: K&N Air Filter
if you use a panel filter in the box, drill holes in the side, also i wouldnt suggest using a cone filter on such a small engine!!

why dont you suggest using a cone filter on a small engine. got one on my 1.0l and i havent got as much pull but got more noise. i do 40 less miles per tank but thats not really a problemtango wrote:if you use a panel filter in the box, drill holes in the side, also i wouldnt suggest using a cone filter on such a small engine!!
