Just braved 10 inches of hard snow to go for milk, five mile trip, heater didnt warm up and temp guage in the red, when i got back the resovoir was boiling over, put recomended antifreeze in last week. Will check out tomorrow and hope the engine not kaput, is it possable for antifreeze to ice up in adverse weather ?

antifreeze will not freeze up but if u only have water as your coolant and it freezes then you will have seriuos problems,the waterpump would freeze and because the cambelt/camchain pumps the water pump then the timing would go out on the engine and probably end up bending all your valves.

Ye your right ,but i think ive been saved from that, i have antifreeze in, maybe not enough, but will put some more in tomoz and hope i aint damaged anything.

yeah u should be fine mate,just make sure you keep it topped up,not just because of all the snow but all year round too lol.

There needs to be an antifreeze mix in all year round as plain water eats aluminium and elements in the antifreeze inhibits this.

eats ur headgasket too (with just water that is)

which is what happened to me, apart from headgasket was goin anyways, but it snapped my timimg belt coz it froze up and luckily the 1.2 8v dont bend valves

ollie so if a 1.2 8v timing belt snaps what happens? just shuts off? then needs replaced ?

yeh just snaps the belt, an wont start agen, just get another 1 put on then away you go aslong as it all gets timed up right

its only because the valves dont hit they have a lot of clearance :p
