hi im new to this forum and dont know much, recently bought a w reg 1.2 16v sxi ive got me test this friday. while my dad has been driving the car the engine management light has been coming on at various speeds, usually between 40,60. when i got the car the bloke mentioned that it had just had a new airflow meter fitted and that this warning light comes on, but he thought it was just a dodgy connection or something. any suggestions on what it could be? the car runs well, idles at about 1000 no other problems apart from this light, any help apreciated.

Try resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery overnight, 1000rpm is too high an idle also.

DISSCONNECTING THE BATTERY DOESNT RESET THE ECU!

disconnecting the battery doesnt work on a vauxhall, and the ecu doesnt reset itself or 'learn' how you drive.........only a rover does!!

vauxhall ecu's are not classed as 'self learning' ecu's

its only a computer, does you pc re-teach itself things everytime you turn it on??

ok fair enough. so have you got any ideas mate id apreciate it

the ecotech engines DO RESET WHEN YOU DISCONNECT THE BATTERY! THEY ARE SELF-LEARNING! I proved it myself and after disconnecting it for like 14 hours it idled rough then reached a normal point then gave me more power and better mpg (this was after a k&n panel filter). I fitted it for a week and it seemed slow and laggy so i reset it and it worked fine afterwards

Idle should be around 800. Find out for youself if disconnecting the battery overnight helps, I don't believe anything until I have my own evidence.

passed me test on friday, the car seems ok. once the choke comes off it does idle at 800, engine mangement light sometimes comes on under acceleration but its usually just random, i get a heavy vibration through the wheel at 70, guessing this is just the wheel balancing wich ill get sorted. going to try the battery trick tommorow night.
