Engine swap?
basically my 1.0 is gutless and goes nowhere, and gets there after everyother motor on the road, so i was thinking about trying to pick up a corsa gsi or just the engine (1.6) and then doin a straight swap. i just want a bit of advice, like how much it should really cost, how hard its gonna be, and maybe if anyone else has done this, what the insurance is like? baring in mind im 17 and i drive a corsa they hate me already, natrually lol, but ill be 18 with a years no claims hopefully by the time i get round to doing it. obviously ive asked other people and loads have said whack a 2.0 redtop in there, yeah sounds sick, fast as f**k...but insurance stops me there. so yeah any help is good?
cheers.
cheers.

Re: Engine swap?
Even if you find a gsi you have no chance insuring it. I would advise to make do and build up your no claims. Make the car look good instead of fast and cruise around as if it goes fast.

Re: Engine swap?
yeah true, i also considered this, but there comes the old saying "polishing a turd" lol but yeah i got a gsi front bumper being sprayed with a debadged grille gettin modded up to fit, then i got springs being whacked on thursday, lookin at either buying some black alloys or spraying mine and thinning the tyres down. then i wanna get the rest of the gsi kit. yeah its gotta be done!

Re: Engine swap?
I'm afraid you are too young for a larger engine so the best bet is make it look good. I've had to wait quite a long time to be able to insure even a 1.4. As long as it looks good don't race. Hey, you may even be killed.

Re: Engine swap?
Sometimes it can help if you get the engine from a really rubbish doner car so it's lower insurance group.
Is there a basic spec ropey Astra/Cav you can pull a 1.4/1.6 lump from, rather than sourcing a 'GSi' engine?

Re: Engine swap?
just do it, mines had a C20LET in it for two years and is registerd as a 1.2, the only problem comes when somebody hits you (as i'm sure your a very good driver) even if it's not your fault your car will still get checked. You just have to be extra careful of other people, and not be botherd if you get clipped in a car park or someone cracks your back bumper at the lights.
On the power front, it depends where you live tbh, theres not much point in having more than 100bhp or so per ton if all you get to do is race chavs at the lights, but if youve got some nice roads around you, sort the chassis properly and get a bit more power.
