Bought a used Corsa Envoy 1.0, 12v. Year 2000 V reg. Seems to work ok, though the cam clatters a bit, 12Month MOT. Possible reduction of power at higher revs (or just certain throttle positions), or maybe it’s just my inexperience with such a puny engine.
Seems to have some kind of fault though. After driving on the motorway at over 60mph for 5 miles or so, the check engine light comes on. No significant difference in performance, engine note or anything else. Temperature is fine (about 91/92 degrees on the dash display). The light goes off after the engine has ‘rested’ for half an hour or so. This has happened a few times and is perfectly repeatable.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Re: Corsa Envoy 1.0, 12v
Hi. Thanks for reply.
Had it about two weeks. Told that it had a service just before it was sold. Also had a clutch fitted. Plenty of oil, must be recent I guess because it’s not quite black yet.
I’m inexperienced at these things, but when looking into the cam through the oil filler hole while the engine is running, the end cam looks like it might not be receiving sufficient oil. It looks like it has two tracks of oil, one on either side, but bare metal in the middle (probably it’s point of contact). After stopping the engine, if I put my finger on the cam, I get two blobs of oil on my fingertip with nothing in between. I have only ever seen one other cam, in a Mercedes engine, and it looked absolutely covered in oil. And there’s a clattering noise coming from the cam area.
Apart from some apparent loss of power at higher throttle settings, and the clattering, it seems to run just fine.
Any ideas what the engine warning light could indicate? And is there an easy way to check the gearbox oil?

Hi,
Could be the Lambda Sensor or the MAF - I have the same issues and the code reader said Lamda. Changed that but issue still exists. I am now looking at changing the MAF
Good Luck with yours
