hi there,
my car is already a cat C write off from before i bought it.
i have now crashed it to what i think is cat c/cat d damage (don't know yet)
what happens now? will it still be cat C? i heard it will be bumped up to cat B just because it's already been crashed before...

Even if we do guess (which we can't without knowing the extent of the damage), it's a bit meaningless, wait for the offical line.
It could be a B, it could be a C. It could be nothing.

fair enough, i got told that because it was already a cat C and it has been crashed again it would automatically become undriveable. that doesn't sound right though

Its all dependable on the insurance report, they will know the details of the first accident damage and they will look for a good state of repair, they'll then look at the vehicle in its complete state before the your accident then they'll check how your accident effected the structure after its last accident..... all in all a cat C car basically means that it would cost more to repair than what the car is worth..... but thats crap because if you repair it yourself and do it properly you can do it alot cheaper than any garage trust me! but yea basically its all dependant on the first accident and how it was repaired but if its been hot in the same place i think they'll just write it off and give there valuation record

thanks. if they write it off and give their valuation record does that mean it will be off the road permanently?

well if they write it off as a cat C and give you say £500 for it they'll then keep ahold of your car and sell it on as it legally becomes theres, if it can be repaired which most can then they'll sell it at a "smash" aution where youcan by damage repairables.... but if they catergories it as a B or A you'll probs never see it again lol but you'll get your pay out dependent on who bumped into who etc
the thing is if it was previously registered as cat c it will probably get reregistered as a C but itd depentend on whether its gone beyond the insurance spec crumpil zone on your model, basically its all down to there choice but, i know you can purchase it back and accept a lower offer from your insurance company

crashed 2 times ? the chassis will be very week and the crumple zone wont do its job as good could be very dangerous

We still don't know what the damage is, or was the first time, so can't really make that call yet. It really does depend what has been hit, and where the force has been absorbed.
The Post C VIC inspection to get it back on the road after the first accident should have at least looked for any damage to structeral components.
Having said that, if the damage is extensive and you've loads of mods you want to keep, may be time to buy a poo and reshell all you're stuff onto it.
