Rubbing tires!!

Hi, just purchased some adjustable coilovers which unfortunatly have no instructions. Fitted them myself anyway as i has a good idea of how to remove the old strut and replace with the new. The coilovers themself have the option to adjust the camber. The problem i have is the wheels i want to put on the car are 15inch and can only fit without rubbing against the top of the strut if the hub is pulled out to give the highest camber. I have noticed when the hub is pulled out it put the tracking out by quite a bit and wore my tires down within a couple of weeks. I have now put the adjusted the camber so the wheels are in line and put the smaller 14inch sxi wheels i got with the car. Its running fine now but i want the bigger wheels on. Would spacers on the front solve my problem as it would then mean i can leave the camber as it is now and have my wheels on? If so what size spacers would i need? Any help much appreciated. Cheers.

what wheels did you have on before?
more than likely they have the wrong offset

u need an offset of 49, mines an sxi with the sxi alloys and is on coilovers, if u get it low enough it loooks sweet

15 inch alloys off an astra in bright white the alloys were an offset of 49 as they should be. There on 55 profile tires and i think that could be part of the problem. Mines a sxi too. Middle box needs removing because it scrapes over speedbumps.

mine did the same, try sum new hangers, thats all mine needed

It's not as simple as just matching the offset, it also depends on the wheel and tyre width.

What is rubbing against what? Is it the side wall of the tyre? Against the strut body? or the Spring platform/Spring itself?

What width are the wheels? And what Width are the tyres?

or antoher way of looking at it...when you had the 15"s on, how much space did you have on the outside of the tyre/wheel before it will hit the arch? if you had space, then yes, slap some thin spacers in, as little as possible but enough to give you at least a few mm clearance (it will all move on hard cornering).

Oh, and really you want the Camber negative slightly for better grip on corners, say -0.5 deg. You def do NOT want +ve camber.

ive got et 45 wheels +5mm spacers to prevent the wheels rubbing on my coilovers and they stil fit in the arch perfect with it slammed with 55 profile tryes

I have 185 wide tires on the front so shouldnt be a problem, and its the side wall of the tire rubbing on the spring itself. Thanks for the help everyone much appreciated.

Problem solved at last. Got 15mm spacers on the front with 195 45 tires. Dropped on its ass :p

im running 196/55/r15s so have no chance lol, im always catching my rear arches on hard bumps, not lowered too

bought some stiffened shocks yesterday for 40mm springs so might be better but looking to go to 185/45/r15 wen i wear these tyres out

Shouldnt be catching if you havent lowered it lol. Be better with vauxhall wheels they arent as wide so can slam it at the back without it rubbing
